Islamic Wedding Cards Demystified

How to design the perfect Islamic Wedding card

A wedding invitation is popularly known as a Nikah or Walima card in Islamic culture.

From the wording to the colors, each element has deep cultural and spiritual significance in an Islamic wedding card.

Seeking the Blessings of God-

Love of the Almighty holds great importance in the Islamic faith. The wedding invitation usually starts with a verse or quote from the Quran to seek the blessings of God. These are often hand calligraphed in beautiful gold letters at the top of the card.

The Stars and Crescent symbol is popular as it represents an acknowledgement of the power of the Almighty in all things.

The Bismillah symbol implies blessing, adoration, and support from God and a popular quote from the quran for wedding cards.

Choosing Colors-

The Islamic wedding ceremony is a vibrant occasion full of music and love and aptly represented in royal colors like Green, Gold, Red and Ivory. Each color has its own significance in the culture-

Ivory symbolizes the purity of heart and mind.

Green denotes a dedication towards the Almighty and the Islamic faith.

Red symbolizes fertility and prosperity.

Design and Format-

When it comes to design, Islamic cards often choose cheerful spring motifs such as floral patterns or lanterns designs.

It is common to mention the names of elders in the family as a mark of respect

Usually the same card will contain both Nikah(marriage) and Walima(Reception banquet) details and most guests are invited to all occasions as the events are an inclusive celebration where all ages mingle and rejoice.
